Situated towards the bottom of an E-facing slope. The castle of Ballykeeroge was granted to Sir Nicholas Walshe in 1587 (Grattan-Flood 1901a). It is described as a ruined castle with a large bawn, an orchard, a pigeon house and several cabins in the Civil Survey of c. 1655 that had been owned by Sir Nicholas Walshe in 1641 (Simington 1942, 80). The ruin is marked on a Taylor and Skinner map (1778, 165). The remains consist of a cairn of rubble (dims. 22m x 9m; H 2-3m) with two chamfered and rebated limestone jambstones from a pointed doorway.
