Located towards the head of a S-N valley between Lismore Cathedral (WA021-019003-) c. 180m to the NE and Lismore castle (WA021-019001-), c. 200m to the N. According to a plaque this well was originally known as the Forge Well, or Tobar na Céartan, but when the water of Tober Mhuire (WA021-19008-), c. 100m to the W, was diverted c. 100 years ago the veneration became attached to this well, which is now known as St Carthage's well. A gate and a passage with steps (L c. 2m; Wth 1.2m) leads to a circular well (diam. 1.05m-1.2m) underneath a dome surmounted with an iron cross.
