Situated on a NE-facing slope of a small S-N glen on the S side of the floodplain of the W-E Blackwater River, with the stream c. 300m to the N. The ruins of a castle are depicted on a Scalé map of 1773 (NLI: ms. 7217, 9). It is not visible at ground level.
