Structure in Gracedieu West

Situated on a slight N-facing slope. First identified in centre-line testing (02E0441) in field 13 by Tara O'Nell and Deirdre Murphy of Archaeological Consultancy Services in preparation for the N25 Waterford City bypass (O'Neill 2004b), and excavated (03E0590) by Ian Russell as Gracedieu West 8 (Russell 2006c). A structure of uncertain shape (dims. c. 9m x c. 7m) is represented by seven post-holes (diam. 0.15-0.52m; D 0.11-0.19m). It had been disturbed by post-medieval drains, but a stone axe was recovered. The structure is probably associated with the material (WA009-033001-) c. 60m to the SW rather than the medieval features (WA009-033002-; WA009-033003-) in the vicinity. Radiocarbon dates of Cal AD 1240-1300 and Cal BC 1140-1290 were recorded, so the material has been disturbed (Russell 2009, App. 1; Russell and Ginn 2011h). O'Neill, T.
