What is recorded here

On Sugarloaf Hill in the Knockmealdown Mountain range. A roughly flat-topped cairn (diam. c. 20m; H c. 2m) of old red sandstone in an area of natural rock outcrop. There is a central depression, in which there are up to five flat slabs, with further upright slabs forming a possible L-shaped setting in the SE sector of the depression. There is evidence of modern disturbance in the form of cairn material having been re-arranged to form two stacks to the N and S, that to N has drystone walling on the downslope/N face. Immediately E of the cairn an area has been cleared. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
