According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) Walter Prendergast was proprietor of Ballybeg and 'Upon the sd lands stands a thatcht house with a chemny' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 325-6). The house was provisionally located to Tullaghmelan Rectory, however this building has no evidence of any early fabric. The house remains unlocated within the townland of Ballybeg. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
