According to Lyons (1938, 153) 'A Le Poer castle at Carrigeen, anciently Glaunaleamy (glen of the leap), now called "The Wilderness," in St. Mary's (Clonmel) Parish, close to the western boundary of Kilgrant, of which but a trace remains…It was held in 1641 by the Le Poer proprietor of Powerstown'. Lyons gives the Civil Survey (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 289) as a reference, however, this reference which pertains to the lands of 'Glaunleamy' makes no mention of a castle on this property but states that 'Upon the sd stands some few cabbins'. Lyons source of information for the existence of this castle is unkown. The location of this possible castle is unknown within Carrigeen and Powerstown Demesne townlands.
