What is recorded here

Excavations in 1993 (Excavation Licence number 93E0131) revealed an organic spread, which occurred at an average depth of 1.4m below modern ground level, dated to the late-medieval/early post-medieval period (Henry 1994, 75). The inclusions of partially rotted twigs, fragments of wood, small pieces of charcoal, economic related plant remains, hazelnut shells, fish bones, sea shells, animal bones, leather and pottery (ibid.). The presence of an extensive organic spread is indicative of a dumping ground for human and occupational waste (ibid.). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
