What is recorded here

Associated with St. Mary's church (TS083-019001-) and located in the NW angle of the medieval town, with the town wall forming the N and W walls of the graveyard. The graveyard (dims. 105m N-S; 114m E-W) contains a number of 17th-century graveslabs, some of which are re-used. There is a limestone window label stop, similar to those on the W porch window, decorated with vine-leaf and interlaced tendril, incorporated into the upper masonry courses of the external face of the SE angle of the boundary of the graveyard. In the churchyard there were a number of buildings. The Vicars house and a school were situated on the S side and a slate stone building which was used as a hospital 'for old impotent decayed inhabittants of Clonmell' was located on the E side (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 387). (Farrelly and FitzPatrick 1993, 58-60). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of revised upload: 26 January 2015
