What is recorded here

On NE-facing slope in undulating terrain, just of crest of NW-SE ridge. Depicted as a circular enclosure (overall diam. c. 25m N-S; c. 27m E-W) on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map with trackway running NW-SE immediately N and a field boundary running NE-SW up to the SW quadrant. On the 1904-05 ed. the enclosure is no longer depicted and the NW-SE field boundary is shown continuing uninterrupted to the lane. The landowner remembers some earthwork at the junction of this field boundary and lane which was levelled in the late 1950s. There is no visible trace of the enclosure above ground. Both fields on either side of the NE-SW field boundary are under grass, with a farm trackway running along the W side of this boundary. The lane is no longer in use but is still evident as a raise, grassed-over roadway. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 11 February 2014

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
