On top of the SW edge of a ridge which runs N-S and slopes gently to the SW, in pasture. The Glennyrea River is located c. 60m downslope to the SW. The Civil Survey (1654-6) refers to Redhill castle as 'a castle and some thatcht houses with a Bawne about them...the sd Castle, Bawne, and lands of Rehill (being a mannor) is appendant a Court-leet and a Court-Baron' (Simington 1931, vol.1, 374) and also mentions that 'the castle of Reighhill [was] lately repayred' (ibid., 260). On the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map a roughly square dashed area is depicted at the site of Rehill Castle, this may be an indication of the bawn (TS081-045002-). There is a short length of hachuring on the 2nd (1904-05) ed. OS 6-inch map but there is no visible trace of the castle above ground.
