What is recorded here

In the Civil Survey (1654-6) there is a reference to 'a thatcht house with a chemny' in 'Kilkorane' and the proprietors in 1640 were 'Donogh mccGragh of Kilcoraine & Thomas Lord Baron of Cahyr. Irish Papist' (Simington 1931, vol.1, 366) which was tentatively located to Kilcoran House. This house dates to the late 18th or early 19th century. The owners knew of no tradition of an earlier house at this location. The 17th-century house remains unlocated within the townland. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
