In flat terrain at base of a S-facing slope with stream running N-S in front of house. The Civil Survey (1654-6) refers to 'John Butler of Lissnodobrid gent Irish Papist' as proprietor of 'Coollonen' in 1640 and 'Uppon the sd lands of Coollonen stands a small stone house in a decayeing condition and noe other improvemt' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 281). According to the current owners the present house incorporates an older, thatched house (dims. L 16.65m; Wth 4.7m) which projects from the rear of the N side of the present house. The facade of the present house is E facing, three-bay with central door, two storey with hipped roof and two central chimney stacks. The older house is incorporated into the main house and into the extension to the rear. Though the house has a render of pebble dash, the base of the NW angle is exposed revealing crude stone quoins. On the W pier of the main entrance there is a datestone (TS078-073----) of 1620 with the initials 'ICMO'. In the farmyard there is another limestone datestone of A.D.1840 with a cross above the date. This probably indicates the date at which the older house was remodelled.
