Immediately SE of Donaghmore church (TS077-027001-) there was a second church. The OS Letters of 1840 relate that the church was 'destroyed years ago by Parson Carey, who used its stones to build pig styes!' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 54). Within the graveyard, SE of the upstanding church, there is a circular depression (diam. 6m N-S; 5.8m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 1.3m crest, 3.2m base; int. H 0.63m; ext. H 0.56m). The bank is not apparent in the W quadrant. This may relate to the former church.
