What is recorded here

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in 1640 on the lands of 'Edmond Mocler of Maganstowne Irish Papist' there is 'an old Thatcht house with a ruined Wind Mill' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 213). On the Down Survey map (1655-6) a water mill is depicted in the vicinity of Maginstown House. It is unclear wheither one source was incorrect in identifying the type of mill in Maginstown or wheither there were in fact two mills. The windmill (TS076-012002-) still survives. This record refers to the possible water mill, the precise location of which is unknown within the townland of Maginstown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of revised upload: 25 September 2014

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
