What is recorded here

According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) land at Dranganbeg was owned in 1640 by Richard Butler of Ballynakill, Irish Papist and on this land there was 'a thatch house and an orchard' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 16). It was speculated that the 'thatch house' might be on the site of or incorporated in Kilmoyler House. However, Kilmoyler House is of mid to late 18th-century date and does not appear to incorporate any earlier features. The 17th-century house remains unlocated within the townland. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
