What is recorded here

A burial cist (diam. 1m) discovered in 1994 and cremated bone recovered from the interior (Pollock 1997, 105). The cist was removed in early 1996 (ibid.). The pit was 1.3m below the present ground surface (likely to be similar to the contemporary ground level) (ibid.). The cist had a floor slab, four low side slabs, and a corbelled ceiling with central capstone (ibid.). A deposit of charcoal and sooty silt (with no cremated bone) found its way onto the capped cist before the pit was backfilled (ibid.). It is not known if and how the burial was marked. Recent disturbance in the vicinity found no further cists (ibid.). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
