Grave Yard — Ballyhomuck

In the Civl Survey of 1654 Richard Brymiidgham (Bermingham) is listed as proprietor of the lands of Ballyhomuck which consisted of 109 acres, of which 80 were arable, 24 acres of pasture and 5 acres of woodland, all of which was valued at 10 pounds per year (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 167). This is probably the same Richard who died in 1672 and whose memorial (TS071-003004-) is now located in the NE corner of the chancel. The graveyard is located in grassland atop low rise of ground with good views in all directions, rectangular graveyard (int. dims. 34m N-S; 46m E-W) enclosed by a limestone wall containing 18th and 19th century memorials. Several architectural fragments have been inserted into the graveyard as grave markers. Early medieval church (TS071-003001-) located near N boundary wall of graveyard, recent burials to N of church between N wall of church and N wall of graveyard. Majority of memorials are situated immediatley E, S and W of the nave and chancel church. A recent clean-up of the graveyard recovered a medieval floriated graveslab (TS0083-019082-) which was used as a building stone in the fabric of the S wall of the nave immediately E of the doorway.
