What is recorded here

In pasture, on a gentle SW-facing slope. Slight visible surface trace of D-shaped area (dims. 60m NE-SW; 32m NW-SE) defined by remains of fosse (Wth c. 10m; D 0.25m) SW-W-NE. Straight side at ESE defined by field boundary. Short portion of levelled bank is traceable SW-WSW as depicted on the 1903-04 edition OS six-inch map. Linear earthwork (long-axis N-S) to SSW indicated on same. Site of Killerk Castle (TS070-071001-) within. Aerial photographs (GSI S.654/3 and S.638/9) have identified a curvilinear crop mark N-NE and E-S-SW which indicates a continuation of the enclosure in the field adjacent to E. This is respected by a curvilinear field boundary N-E-ESE. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
