In level area of fallow arable land. Sited on top of elongated, oval mound (TS069-057002-). No visible surface trace of castle masonry, although loose limestone rocks visible in places and others detected below surface sod in central and S area of mound. Named as 'Site of Black Castle' on 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map and depicted as a ruined building orientated NW-SE, measuring approx. 11m NW-SE x 9m NE-SW. On the 1906 ed. OS 6-inch map the site of the castle is depicted within an earthwork platform (TS069-057002-).
