In the chancel of the Augustian abbey (TS068-013---) at Athassel, the centre point is 6m from the E gable and 3.3m from the S wall. A limestone tapering slab (L 1.93m; Wth at top 0.6m; Wth at base 0.43m; average T 0.09m) with a chamfer (Wth 0.06m) along each edge and three slight cracks on its face. It is described by Maher (1997, 53) as, 'An incised cross extends the length of the slab. The equal-armed cross-head with curved angles is enclosed by a circle which rests on the shaft. The upper angles of the cross-head feature poorly preserved, curvilinear motifs, while the lower angles feature quatrefoils. Beneath the cross-head and outside the circle is a circular knop. It is located at the top of the cross-stem, which terminates in another quatrefoil. There is no evidence to suggest that the slab bore an inscription' (ibid.).
