In the chancel of the Augustian abbey (TS068-013---) at Athassel, against the E gable in the SE angle. It is described by Maher (1997, 53) as the upper half of a tapering slab (L 1.03m; Wth at top 0.45m; Wth at base 0.30m; average T 0.13m) with a chamfer (Wth 0.02m) along the dexter side only. 'A Lombardic inscription occurs on the face of the slab, which is somewhat weathered, commencing at the top of the dexter side and running parallel to its edge. It survives in fairly good condition and is preceded by an equal-armed cross with expanded terminals. It reads: HIC JACET (F?)RA(G/T)ER THOMAS which is probably to be interpreted as: HIC JACET FRATER THOMAS (Here lies Brother Thomas)' (ibid.). The 'FRATER' is not clear and the word may start with an 'M', and is perhaps 'MAGISTER'.
