According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in ‘Ballinlenty', which was under the proprietorship of ‘Thomas Butler of Pollardstowne in ye county of Lym[er]ick Irish Papist’ in 1640, ‘On the s[ai]d lands stands an old brocken castle' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 32). This castle is unlocated within Clonpet Parish.
