According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in ‘Ardanvollane', which was under the proprietorship of ‘Sr John Magrath of Allevollane Irish Papist’ in 1640, ‘Uppon the s[ai]d third p[ar]t colpe stands a burnt castle with a bawne wanting repayre' (Simington 1934, vol.2, 35). This castle and bawn (TS066-153002-) are unlocated within the townlands of Ardavullane, Rathkea and Shrough.
