The Civil Survey (1654-6) describes 'an old stumpe of a castle & som thatcht houses not inhabited', in the townland of Clogh Iready (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 63). The castle was provisionally located to Ballynacree House as it is the townland house, however, it is a 19th-century house with no evidence of any early fabric. Castle remains unlocated within Ballynacree townland. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
