What is recorded here

In gently undulating low-lying pasture, on the S side of a distribution of sites including an enclosure (TS065-063005-) c. 100m to the NNW and numerous barrows in the vicinity. Identified on aerial photograph (Bruff 42, 5/2041). Ovoid slightly raised area (dims. 40m NE-SW; 25m NW-SE) defined by an earthen scarp (Wth 2.2m; ext. H 0.25m). At the external base of the scarp is a broad flat-bottomed fosse (Wth at base 1.7m; D 0.05m) with an intermediate low flat-topped earthen bank (overall Wth 3.85m; Wth at top 1.55m; H 0.2m) and traces of an external fosse (overall Wth 1.8m). The first fosse and the intermediate bank are not visible at ground level NNW-NE. Traces of the external fosse are visible at ground level SW-NW only. The original entrance is not recognisable but is likely to be on the N side where the enclosing elements are not now visible at ground level. The interior is level across the N half with low irregular undulations across the S half, and is clear of overgrowth. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of revised upload: 15 September 2014
