In June 1958 human remains were discovered in a mound (H c. 5m; diam. c. 27m). The remains appear to have been exposed through the action of a stream cutting through the mound. A large number of skeletons were apparently exposed at a depth of 0.6m below the surface of the mound and appeared to be lying on a layer of stones. A number of skeletons were visible in situ, and were extended on an E-W axis. No associated artefacts were found with the burials. According to local information, this site is associated with ‘Danes and battle’. The mound is said to be a few fields away from the level crossing in Clonbrogan townland and may be close to the Clashawley River, however, the exact location is unknown. It is likely that this monument is in fact the burial mound (TS054-048----) located in Buffanagh townland, immediately to the N.
