White (1892, 63) in his description of Mortlestown Castle (TS062-011----) mentions, 'I was told by men who reside in the neighbourhood of Mortlestown Castle, that the remains of an old Church was standing some years ago some short distance from the Castle, and that in ploughing up the land several old metal articles like chains, were found'. There is no church indicated on the 1st (1840) ed. 6-inch OS map in the vicinity of the tower house. The church is unlocated within the townland of Mortlestown.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
