What is recorded here

In improved pasture, on a W-facing slope. A sub-rectangular area (dims. 34m E-W; 31m N-S) defined by the remains of a linear earthen bank (overall Wth 6.2m; Wth at top 2.0m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.18m) to N and E and a curvilinear bank reduced to scarp (Wth 2.85m; H 0.85m) from SW-W-NW. The bank has been modified in the NE sector where there is a shallow depression. A short length of backfilled fosse (overall Wth 4.0m; basal Wth 1.3m; D 0.3m) is visible at the SE and SW sector which it shares with conjoined enclosure (TS062-062001-) to the S. The interior slopes down gently to W. A linear bank (L 26m; Wth 2,8m; int. H 0.15; ext. H 0.4m) runs N-S across the W sector. A large curving section of the W bank of both enclosures is clearly indicated on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map, though by the 2nd (1903-04) ed. they are depicted as being part of the same monument. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
