According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) in 1640 in 'Ballyknock' there was 'an old Broken Bawne at prsent Wast' under the proprietorship of 'Redmond Magrath of Thurlesbegg Esqr. Irish Papist' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 223). This bawn is unlocated within Ballyknock townland.
