Lying in the choir of the cathedral (TS061-025003-) on the Rock of Cashel. A rectangular slab (L 1.86m; Wth 0.61m; T 0.1m) the upper surface of which is worn, cracked and broken (Maher 1997, 73). It is decorated with a seven-armed segmental fleur-de-lis cross, carved in relief (ibid.) with a knop at the base of the cross-head surmounting the cross-shaft. The cross-shaft rests on a pillar-base form (ibid.). There is a single floral motif on either side of the cross-shaft, which differ slightly. A latin inscription, in Black Letter script, runs around the slab and continues within the decorative panel on the dexter side, though FitzGerald (1901-03, vol. 5, 442) noted that 'Illegible inscriptions are also cut lengthways on either side of the cross-shaft'. FitzGerald (ibid.) translated the inscription as: HIC IACET JOHES CONRAN CLERICUS QUONDAM...QUI OBIIT / ...DIE...ANO DNI...CUI' AIE PPICIETUR DE' / AMEN. Maher (1997, 73) translates this as, 'Here lies Jobe [Johannes] Conran formerly a cleric... / ...who died / _ A.D. on whose soul may God have mercy'.
