What is recorded here

According the Jackson (1957, 19) in 1275 'a gaol' was built beside the Church of St. Nicholas in Cashel. The chapel or chantry of St. Nicholas (TS061-025021-) was apparently located in the immediate area of the present Post Office which is on the N side of the W end of Main Street, Cashel. The prison is not visible above ground and its precise location is unknown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
