Within Ballygriffin church (TS060-049001-), towards the W end of the N wall there is a limestone 17th-century graveslab embedded in the ground (Wth 0.66m; H 0.6m above ground; D 0.16m). It bears the following unfinished inscription in raised Roman Capitals: MONUMENTUM HOC FIERI FECERUNT ANNO DOMINI 1646. HIC JACET D JOANNES CORCRANE PRESBITER ET CURATUS HUIUS ECCLESIAE CUM MATRE SUA [E] ONORA TROHI ILLE OBIIT [blank] DIE [blank] ANO DNI [blank]. ILLA OB [blank] DIE [blank] AO [blank] DNI [blank] PROPITIETUR DEUS. This roughly translates as: This monument was made in the year 1646. Here lies John Corcoran curate of this parish and his mother Honora Trobi, the dates of their deaths have been left blank. The mother's maiden name is variously given as 'Trihy' (White 1892, 26) and 'Troy' (Seymour 1910-12, vol. 8, 433). Beneath the lettering there is a shield with a lion passant guardant, apparently the arms of Corcrane (ibid.).
