What is recorded here

In wet, marshy, low-lying flat terrain in rough pasture. There are a lot of rushes in the surrounding field and on the monument, particularly on the northern half. A raised oval area (diam. 33m N-S; 30m E-W) enclosed by a broad, flat bank (Wth at crest 1.8m; overall Wth base 5.4m; int. H 0.25m; ext. 0.65m) and broad, flat fosse (Wth 5m; D 0.25m). The bank is evident in the NW quadrant and elsewhere has been reduced to scarp. The enclosure is bisected by a field bank running E-W and another field bank runs N-S along the base of the scarp in the E quadrant. The fosse is best preserved in the S sector of the monument, where it is accentuated by rising ground S and SW of the fosse. A short length of fosse (Wth 2.7m; D 0.2m) is also visible in the NE quadrant. There is an entrance (Wth 5m) in the NNW sector. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 23 March 2012
