Barrow — unclassified in Kilcornan

In generally flat marshy terrain, in gently undulating ground. The land is quite hummocky to the W has a lot of reeds. The field to the E has been reclaimed. A large pond barrow (TS058-046----) is located 280m to the ENE and two ring-barrows (TS058-070001- and TS058-070002-) are located 200m to the E. The barrow (TS058-023002-) and standing stone (TS058-023004-) at Longstone are visible 1.7km to the NE. A raised earthen monument (diam. 16.5m N-S; 17m E-W) defined by a broad bank (Wth at base 3.7m; Wth at crest 1.5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.05m) which is best preserved in the N-NE and almost reduced to scarp elsewhere. There is a slight, roughly circular raised area in the interior (dims. 5.8m N-S; 5.4m E-W; H 0.05m) which is off-centre towards the northern edge of the monument. A deep wide field ditch, running E-W, truncates the monument in the S quadrant. The E quadrant is similarly truncated by a field bank and ditch running N-S. A field ditch runs N-S along the external base of the bank in the W quadrant. In the N quadrant there is a wide, flat-bottomed depression (Wth 4.6m; D 0.3m) at the external base of the bank which may be an external fosse though the ground appears to be rising naturally northward, perhaps creating the appearance of a fosse.
