In grassland on top of high ground with good views in all directions, nearby stream 50m to the S. Well (TS058-027----) 97m to SW, church (TS058-025----) and graveyard (TS058-025001-) 270m to SW and second well (TS058-026----) 209m to the W.No surface remains visible. 19th-century castle cottage to the N of the castle has some medieval cut stone in its fabric, it is likely that this cottage is built from the stonework of castle. Single arch stone of a sandstone arch possibly from the castle is lying on the ground in the SW corner of the field. Referred to in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as 'a castle in good repayre & a mill wth sevall thatcht houses inhabitted' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 56). Barnaby Earle of Thomond was listed as the proprietor of the lands in 1640 with Gamaliell Warters as the leasee of the lands (ibid.). This castle is mentioned in the Annals of the Four Masters in the year 1579 (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 9). In 1840 there were no remains of the castle visible (ibid.).
