Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Killeennagallive

On top of a very slight broad rise in gently undulating pasture. Another ringfort (TS057-001----) is visible c. 180m to the WSW and a stepped-barrow (TS057-003001-) is visible c. 185m to the SE. Raised circular area (diam. 24m) enclosed by a steep earthen scarp (Wth 5m; H 1.9m). At the base of the scarp is a largely silted up flat-bottomed fosse (Wth at base 4m; D 0.2m) with an intermediate bank (overall Wth 14m; Wth at top 6m; H 0.4m) and external fosse (overall Wth 5.2m; Wth at base 1.2m; D 0.2m). NNE-WSW orientated field bank extends across the first fosse to within 2m of the external base of the scarped edge at WSW and at NW and a modern ENE-WSW orientated field boundary bank lies along the external edge of the intermediate bank SSE-SSW. The external fosse is not visible SE-SW. Break (Wth 2m) across the scarp, with a possible lining of rubble stone blocks on either side, and causeway (Wth 6-7.5m) across the first fosse at S marks the position of the original entrance. Interior is dished with an area (diam 7-8m) in the centre of the interior that slopes gently down toward the entrance at SSE. The interior is dry and clear of overgrowth. A circular outer concentric enclosure (diam. c. 54m), which appears to be defined by a bank and fosse, is visible on an aerial photograph (Bruff aerial survey ref. 3616) (Doody 1993, 177).
