What is recorded here

On poorly drained grassland on N-facing slope of rising ground in upland region. A house is indicated in this area on the Down Survey (1655-6) parish map. It was speculated that this house might be 'Ballinunty House' as depicted on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map. However, only the wall-footings of Ballinunty House and partial remains of walled garden to S of house survive with no evidence for any house of 17th-century date. The house indicated on the Down Survey map is unlocated within Ballinunty townland. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
