What is recorded here

On flat poorly drained bogland at base of the bog Island of Derrynaflan with nearby church (TS054-002002-) 250m to E. Depicted as a circular enclosure (map diam. c. 25m) on the 1st (1840) and 2nd (1905) ed. OS 6-inch map. Only the W enclosing element could be identified as the area is covered in vegetation which may obscure any low enclosing bank in the other sectors. The earth and stone bank (base Wth 2m; top Wth 1m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.4m) in the W sector is mainly reduced to a scarp, with a wide flat-bottomed fosse (base Wth 2m; top Wth 4m; ext. D 0.3m) and an external bank (base Wth 3m; top Wth 1.5m; ext. H 0.4m) which survives from SW through W to NW only. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
