In a demesne on N facing slope of low rising ground with good views to W, N and E with higher ground to S. Nearby ringfort (TS054-041----) 200m to SE and house of possible 17th-century date (TS053-052002-). Castle not visible at ground level. It is mentioned in the Civil Survey (1654-6) when Henry Laffan is listed as proprietor in 1640 and on the lands are mentioned a 'little old Castle with part of the Walls of a stone house not finished' (Simington 1931, vol.1, 106).
