The Civil Survey (1654-6) describes a 'large Bawne' in Ballinree which in 1640 was under the proprietorship of Walter Butler of Nodstowne (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 216). There is no visible evidence of a bawn at Ballinree House, where the house was located on the 1st (1840) ed. 6-inch OS map. The bawn is unlocated within the townland.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
