On a gentle W-facing slope in gently undulating terrain. Ardmayle church (TS052-035005-) and graveyard (TS052-035006-) are located c. 100m to W. There are a number of earthworks extending N, E and S of the tower house (TS052-034009-) in Ardmayle, however, these do not form any pattern of recognisable medieval settlement and possibly relate to later field boundaries and farming activities. An area c. 60m SE of the tower house appears to be a filled-in quarry (dims. c. 31m N-S; 28m E-W) with quite disturbed ground and mounds of what appear to be upcast. An earthen bank (Wth 0.75m) runs SE from this disturbed ground (L 55.2m) to form a roughly L-shaped arrangement with a bank (L 30.7m) running NE-SW. A raised trackway (H 0.32m above ground level), W of the tower house, runs inside the W field boundary wall running NE-SW, this appears to be a later farm trackway. Approximately 100m SW of the tower house there is an earthen bank running NW-SE which appears on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map as a field boundary. Approximately 20m NE of the tower house there is another area of disturbed ground which appears to be associated with a former water trough.
