What is recorded here

On top of Bregaun hill in upland region with panoramic views in all directions. No clear remains visible of any cairn on top of Bregaun hill which has a cross erected on the summit of the hill in 1950. Small whitethorn bush located beside the cross, immediately to the NE which may have been located on a low or levelled cairn as there is evidence for grass covered loosely piled stones which may be the remains of a levelled cairn. No other features visible, no definite shape or edge to the grass-covered stones. No evidence of any cairn with burial (TS049-014002-) which was referred to in the Kilkenny journal of 20 July 1918 which refers to 'Excavations on Brengaun'. Cairn in grassland at time of inspection with railing erected around Stone cross. The construction of the cross in the 1950s may have resulted in the partial levelling of any cairn on this hill.
