What is recorded here

Described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as having 'fower Eele fishings' in the vicinity of Holycross abbey (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 64). This stone weir traversing the River Suir is indicated on the 1st (1840-41) ed. OS 6-inch map as a curving weir and is in roughly the same position on the revised (1952-3) ed., though as a shorter, straight weir, and may incorporate elements of the weir described in the Civil Survey.
