On flat pasture with good views in all directions. There are no surface remains of the castle depicted on the Strafford Survey of 1637 (NLI 16.1.17 (13)) which appears to have been in the vicintiy of Rathkennan House, an 19th-century farmhouse and outbuildings. A nearby motte and bailey (TS046-027002-) may be the castle depicted on the Stafford Survey. The exact location of this monument is unknown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
