What is recorded here

Situated on flat level ground in pasture near the edge of a marsh with the flood-plain of the River Suir to the SE and a nearby ringfort (TN047-020) visible c. 100m to the SW. The site is very overgrown making detailed examination impossible. It is enclosed by a substantial bank (Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.53m; ext. H 1.83m), a wide, flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 4.2m; D 1.14m) and a large outer bank (Wth 1.4m; ext. H 0.6m). There is a possible causewayed entrance at E and a gap in the banks at N. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
