What is recorded here

Located on rthe crest of a hill on a SW-facing slope in undulating pastureland. A circular area (diam. 50m N-S; 51m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.71m; ext. H 1.75m) and a wide, shallow external fosse (Wth 4m; D 0.5m). The site is in a good state of preservation though in the SW quadrant the bank (Wth c. 8m) has been quarried out. No clear evidence of an entrance - it may have been downslope in the quarried sector. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
