What is recorded here

In the course of field survey in Derryville bog a layer of stone was identified as a fulacht fia (Gowen 1999, Derryfadda 119, 113-4). It was 'located within a highly organic matrix mixed with charcoal, wood, clay and sand which was traced for 13m' (ibid.). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
