Situated on a low rise of natural rock outcrop in slightly undulating countryside. Described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as a 'small castle out of repair' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 70). Theobald Purcell is listed as proprietor in 1640 (ibid.). Only the S wall survives of a small rectangular castle (ext. dims. E-W 8.8m; wall T 2m) orientated on a N-S axis and constructed with roughly coursed limestone rubble. There is a ground-floor window (now destroyed) in the centre of the S wall with partial remains of spiral stairs in the SE angle.
