What is recorded here

Situated on the SE-facing slope a hillock in an upland area with a possible conjoined ringfort (TN031-028) to the N. A raised circular area enclosed by two earth and stone banks and intervening fosse (Wth 2m; D 1m max.) with a poorly preserved causewayed entrance at E. The inner bank (Wth 1.5-2.5m; int. H 0.5-0.8m; ext. H 1.5m) is best preserved while the outer bank (Wth 1m; ext. H 0.5m) is only visible from SE through S to SW. A modern road intersects the fosse at N on a NW-SE axis destroying the outer bank and possibly separating this site from the conjoined ringfort (TN031-028). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
